We acknowledge our event takes place on the stolen land of the Wurundjeri-willam people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to elders past, present and future and to the Indigenous performers involved in our shows. Sovereignty was never ceded.
Get ready for a very special October 31st show! Idk bout you, but we've seen way too many Halloween parties with white ppl culturally appropriating all over the place... The Cocoa Butter Club is a safer space for people of colour, and more than ever we want to see QTIPOC to the front in all our glory. And yes, this means..... COSTUME COMPETITION!!!
Bailee Rose (contemporary dance)
Tarsha Jago (standup comedy)
Bahdoesa (Dance hall/ soul/ hip hop/ afrobeat)
Ana Diction (gender fucking burlesque)
Creatrix Tiara (Queer Lady Magician)
and your incred MCs, DAVEY THOMPSON & NAYUKA GORRIE!
In addition to our badass line up, we'll have a catwalk time for any Indigenous and/or People of Colour (IaoPoC) who wanna dress up and strut their stuff, Halloween style ♥ ♥
A note: as always, white people are welcome & invited to attend in solidarity and support of our aim to prioritise people of colour. There are heapsa ways to do this:
- Acknowledging that white ppl have privilege (mandatory)
- Shouting a ticket for a poc mate/donating extra
- Not taking up too much space on the night (expected)
- Wording up other white friends on how to be respectful before they attend
- Deffo not wearing stuff which appropriate cultures that aren't your own (eg white dreadlocks & bindis)
- Listening if/when poc have any issues ♥
$16 Conc, $22 full
10% of all profit is donated to WAR (Warriors of Aboriginal Resistance), and NOTAFLOF $0 tickets are available - priority to IaoPoC.
Doors open at 7PM, show at 8PM!
TCBC showcases IaoPoC, in an unapologetic, vibrant night of multi-genre performance including live music, comedy, drag, dance, and anything else it takes to moisturise the room with IaoPoC goodness ♥
We exist to promote the fact that performers of colour are creating in a multitude of mediums, though in our experience artists of colour and their incredible talent are often ignored, erased and untold. We call it a creative clap-back and this is a safer space for creative expression!
This is a cross-continental project; The Cocoa Butter Club, was originally started by Sadie Sinner The Songbird in London. In early 2017, a sibling group was created in Australia, curated and produced by Krishna Istha and Dani Weber.
Venue is wheelchair accessible, the show will be Auslan interpreted and there are gender-neutral restrooms on site.
